The American giant Nike is going to reissue its famous Air Raid « Urban Jungle Gym » (article available HERE), released in 1993 in parallel to Spike Lee’s spot « Live Together, Play Together ». This advertising campaign aimed to promote the idea of peace and unity among all human beings, especially sports lovers and the essential American sneaker brand : Nike. The Beaverton label is now incorporating this Air Raid in a « Live Together, Play Together » pack that also includes two other cult silhouettes, the Air Max 1 and the Air Force 1.
Spike Lee is a committed American screenwriter/director/actor/producer. His work highlights the African-American community, which has been largely unrepresented in the movie world in the past. They address social issues and denounce the inequalities suffered by minorities. Spike Lee has also raised awareness of « African-American » culture and has participated in the popularization of Sneakers culture. The multidisciplinary artist has played an important role for the Nike brand and its sub-label Jordan Brand.
Like the Air Raid, this Air Force 1 is dressed in a black leather base.
The tone-on-tone overlays are contrasted by a dark grey suede laceguard. The multicolored circular logo (green, yellow, red and blue) is embroidered on the mudguard. To affirm the design, the tongue branding is adorned with these bright colors and an addition of yellow stitching, also found on the front of the laceguard. The signature « Urban Jungle Gym » pattern, typical of the 90s, stands out on the heel and insole. A white side swoosh, metallic silver dubraes and the « Live Together, Play Together » tagline sewn into the inside of the tongue, complete the look. The whole is based on a white midsole and a black outsole.
The iconic Air Max 1 adopts the most discreet « Urban Jungle Gym » look of the pack.
The shoe features a white mesh vamp with grey-white nubuck overlays on the upper part of the foot. As for the mudguard, it comes in black suede with yellow stitching on the side toe. The royal blue swooshes on one side of the sneaker and bright red on the other side, bring a nice touch of contrast. The signature Urban Jungle Gym design subtly covers the inner lining, while the heel features the multi-colored « Peace and Love » logo with additional embroidery detail. Tongue branding, aglets and laces eyelets in the signature print colors complete the design. The whole is based on a white midsole with the transparent Air unit combined with a black outsole featuring a red touch on the toe.
The Nike « Live Together, Play Together » pack consisting of the Air Raid, Air Max 1 & Air Force 1 is expected to be released before the end of this year 2020 on Nike.com and selected retailers. More info coming soon, stay tuned…
