An almost forgotten ASICS silhouette from 1989, the EX89, has been taken out of the archives and relaunched by Ronnie Fieg a few days ago through a collaboration with his brand KITH (article available HERE). The iconic Japanese sportswear brand presents it today in 3 new colorways and will reintroduce it in its actual catalog.
ASICS seems to follow the inspiration of Ronnie Fieg to dress the EX89 model.
The founder of KITH had explained that he was paying tribute to his hometown of New York and its iconic basketball team, the KNICKS, with his capsule including 3 special versions of the asics EX89.
The 3 new versions proposed by the Japanese brand displays the colors of 3 flagship teams of the NBA : the New York Knicks as Ronnie Fieg, but also the Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers.
These EX89s consist fo a white leather upper, contrasted by the team colors represented, respectively blue/orange, green/black and blue/gold, at the side Tiger Stripes, lower eyelets, back panels, heel embroidery and inner lining. The pairs benefit from subtle, eye-catching details, such as silver mesh tongues, two-tone double stitching and perforations on the toe box that add breathability to the model. To complete the look, the whole is based on a yellow midsole and a yellow/green outsole for the Celtics version and on a white midsole and a tri-color outsole for the other 2 versions, with a common grey heel cup.
The ASICS EX89 « NBA Teams » trio will be released in the coming months, at selected retailers and online at asics.com, for a price of $110 per colorway. Stay tuned !
