A few days ago, talented Queens designer Ronnie Fieg teased a brand new upcoming collab with Japanese brand ASICS (article available HERE). Via his Instagram account, the KITH founder brings details about this new opus based on the EX89 silhouette.
Every year since 2007, Ronnie Fieg dives into the archives of the ASICS brand to pull out models that are not very popular or perhaps too avant-garde for their time. With his designer’s eye and his streetwear-chic touch, he gives a new chance to some silhouettes to meet a deserved popularity. (several articles available on this site).
The latest find from the founder of KITH : the asics GEL-EXTREME performance model originally created for basketball. Designed in 1988 by Toshikazu Kayano, this shoe is his very first design and marks the beginning of the famous KAYANO line for asics. The GEL-EXTREME was worn by Kurt Rambis and Michael Cooper who played for the Showtime Lakers. With its launch in 1989, it was declined in Hi and Low.
The versions reinterpreted by Ronnie Fieg are 3 Lows. Continuing to pay homage to his hometown of New York, the designer has dressed them in the colors of his flagship team, the NY Knicks.
These 3 asics EX 89 revisited will know different release modalities. The suede duo will be available first and the white leather version with blue and red details will be a future « Kithstrike » surprise.
The first 2 pairs Off-White and Orange are made of premium suede. They feature matching overlays and white Tiger Stripes that enhance the look. A unique touch of contrast on the Off-White pair is provided by the blue KITH tongue branding. The Orange iteration keeps its two-tone orange/off-white look. The 2 versions benefit from a yellowed sole that harmoniously finalizes the retro-chic style.
The Ronnie Fieg x Asics EX89 Off-White and Orange will be released on November 7, 2022, during the next Monday Programm, in stores and online at kith.com. Don’t sleep !
