In 2016, the DJ-designer Chelo founded his fashion brand THATBOII, mixing streetwear and premium quality, in 2016. This young German label based in Munich is known for designing « made in Germany » items in limited quantities, attracting the interest of many music and fashion personalities. Sharing a love of beautiful materials and local craftsmanship, THATBOII has teamed up with KANGAROOS to present us a collaboration based on an archive model of the German brand. It’s called Ultralite « Street 355C ».
Although inspired by a handball shoe from the 80s, the sneaker unveiled today looks more like a BMX silhouette.
The name given to this model refers both to the popular sport activity that Chelo loves, and to the lifestyle side : « Street » being a freestyle BMX discipline. Then, the number 355 corresponds to the number of pairs that will be produced and the letter « C » is simply the initial of the musician-creator.
This « Made in Germany » pair consists of a light grey mesh upper with grey nubuck overlays. To affirm the BMX design, the oversized grey tongue appears inflated and has a label reminiscent of the heel strap sewn into the back. In terms of details, the THATBOII branding is sewn with white thread on the quarter panel, the inner lining is white and a TPU insert is placed on top of the laceguard. In order to ensure the best matching, the pair is delivered with 5 sets of laces in different colours : white, grey, light grey, orange and green. The whole is based on a yellowed vintage sole with Dynacoil technology.
This collaborative shoe is part of the THATBOII « Tour de Munich » collection (thatboii.com/lookbook) which will be released in July 2020. The street, lifestyle and BMX spirit can be found on all these ready-to-wear items.
The THATBOII x KangaROOS Ultralite « Street 355C » will be released exclusively on July 2, 2020 on shop.thatboii.com.
It will then be available on July 4th on the BSTN website where bookings are already open.
