Last July, the Jumpman brand unveiled an Air Jordan 2 Low designed with the South African shop, SHELFLIFE (article available HERE). This special version is Jordan Brand’s first collaborative shoe with a partner based on the African continent.
Founded and run since 2006 by Nick Herbert, SHELFLIFE is one of South Africa’s leading sneaker retailers. It started out as a graffiti supplies retailer.
The reinvented AJ2 opts for a rather sober and elegant look evoking the shop’s graffiti and street art origins. Indeed, the base in white premium leather and suede « Light Bone » appears as a blank wall on which the graffiti artist can affix his signature. A nice touch of contrast is provided by bright orange elements, such as the Wing logo on the tongue, the tags sewn on the inside of the tongue, one of the lace sets, parts of the rubber outsole and the co-branded graphic insole. The latter is decorated with scrawled signatures and autographs that reflect the ubuntu spirit : « I am because we are ». To complete the look, the heel features a semi-translucent milky TPU reinforcement and a raised cream-colored heel tab.
This Shelflife x AJ2 Low comes in a special box and with 2 extra sets of laces (off-white and green).
The SHELFLIFE x Air Jordan 2 Retro Low will be released on October 21, 2022 for $200 in Shelflife stores in Cape Town and Johannesburg, online at shelflife.co.za and via raffles at select retailers like END., SVD, BSTN and FOOTDISTRICT. Good luck !
