The famous Japanese brand ASICS works to offer us innovative and environmentally friendly silhouettes. It has set concrete goals, such as achieving zero net CO2 emissions by 2050. The manufacturer unveils the sneaker with the smallest carbon footprint ever : the GEL-Lyte III CM 1.95.

Yasuhito HIROTA, CEO of asics, said : “ASICS is founded on the belief in the powerful intrinsic connection between sport and spirit. That is why we are so committed to doing our part to ensure the long-term sustainability of our planet. By doing so, we can ensure that future generations can continue to enjoy the positive impact of sport on the mind. To achieve a healthy mind in a healthy body (the ASICS definition), you need a healthy land to move in, after all.”

With only 1.95 kg of CO2 emissions per pair over its entire life cycle, the new GEL-Lyte III represents a significant leap for ASICS in its environmental approach. It is currently the greenest shoe on the market.

The GEL-Lyte III CM 1.95 was born after more than 10 years of research and development by the Japanese brand. Its first partnership with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) dates back to 2010, with the aim of finding the best way to accurately measure the CO2 impact of a product’s entire life cycle.
The new model developed is more sustainable, while maintaining its quality and performance.
Among the innovations, the upper and part of the insole are composed mainly of recycled and dyed polyester, in line with ASICS’ goal to source 100% of this material by 2030.
As for the structure of this silhouette, the brand uses tape to limit other materials and 100% of the energy needed throughout the manufacturing phase is renewable.
In the midsole and insole, we discover other changes. They consist of a new, highly comfortable carbon-negative foam, derived from the fusion of biobased polymers3 derived in part from sugarcane.

The GEL-LYTE™ III CM 1.95 will be released sometime in 2023 at ASICS retailers and on asics.com. Stay tuned !
