After presenting us with a collaborative editorial last month, FOOTPATROL continues this early 2024 with an eye-catching new art project. The famous Soho shop unveils a capsule of several pieces created by legendary London tattoo artist Ken Carlos.
From an early age, Ken Carlos has had a natural talent for drawing. Over the years, he perfected his passion, then trained in art and design. At that time, he was customizing sneakers and clothes as a means of income while still at school. Some time later, at the age of 19, Ken Carlos took up tattooing. From humble beginnings, he moved up the London tattoo scene and worked at the world-renowned Lowrider Tattoo. Then he has launched a new business with his friend and business partner JP. ‘The Getaway’ – a private studio specializing in Fineline, Single Needle Black and Grey tattoos.
The relationship between Foootpatrol boutique and tattoo artist Ken Carlos began in 2021. The streetwear retailer commented, “When we met Ken, we immediately bonded over a mutual understanding and respect for our respective brands. After a few face-to-face meetings and conference calls, we strengthened our friendship by working together on our first apparel project.”*
Following the success of the collaborative t-shirt released in 2021 as part of Footpatrol’s ‘Communi-T’ series, the partners have reunited to present us with a collection named “Good Times/Bad Times”.
This new opus pays tribute to Ken Carlos’ love of his art, tattooing, and the bonds that are created between the artist and his customers. The London-based tattoo artist commented : “Art imitates life”.
Each piece in the capsule explores both the foundations and the progression of the art of tattooing. The collaborative black or white t-shirts and black hoodie feature special brandings and reworked classic motifs, such as the English rose updated and illustrated as barbed wire, with meticulously detailed quilting over Old English calligraphic lettering..;
