The creative collective of artists and designers BRAIN DEAD is once again teaming up with the equipment manufacturer Reebok. The two partners unveiled the pieces of their collaboration for the Autumn/Winter 2020 series through a visual campaign produced by the Los Angeles art studio Superdoom. Presented as artifacts by historian-researcher Solomon Wright, the classic Reebok Pump Court and Beatnik silhouettes were chosen to develop this project.
In this visual campaign, the Beatnik is like « the key » and the Pump Court « the battery » that unlock a door to interdimensional travel. The two pairs of shoes are adorned with a palette of colors referring to the universe, space and the planets, as well as historical works of art.
The beatnik sandal consists of a deep blue suede upper with a white and light brown cowhide strap over the midfoot. A black strap with Brain Dead branding on the top is inserted into a light yellow Reebok double strap. The beige heel strap is padded for optimal comfort and passes through the second notch of this strap. The whole is based on a comfortable black midsole combined with a royal blue notched outsole grip.
The shoe inspired by Steven Smith’s 1995 prototypes, the Pump Court, is made of an upper combining various materials such as yellow, beige and blue synthetics, as well as grey mesh and cowhide print on the front of the foot with a TPU strap and a semi-translucent cream-colored cage. The famous Pump technology ensures an optimal customized fit. The inflation button features the Brain Dead logo. The blue mesh tongue with white embroidered Reebok branding and grey heel reinforcement complete the design. The whole is based on a high-performance white midsole with Hexalite cushioning and a durable black and grey rubber outsole.
The Brain Dead x Reebok Pump Court & Beatnik will be available exclusively on September 15, 2020 on the wearebraindead.comcollective’s website before being available at selected retailers worldwide on September 18, 2020 and on Reebok.com
