The famous shop ATMOS reinterprets once again the iconic adidas SUPERSTAR silhouette. For this latest collab named DOG « HACHIKO », the Japanese retailer was inspired by HACHIKO, the faithful Japanese Akita dog from the Shibuya district in Tokyo.
For the record, HACHIKO was the dog of a Tokyo university professor in the 1920s. The legend says that the pet accompanied his master Hidesaburo Ueno every day at the Shibuya station and went to wait for him every evening when he got off the train. In May 1925, the professor died of apoplexy at the university. Hachiko waited for him every night at the station until his death 10 years later. As a symbol of loyalty, Hachiko the « faithful dog » is still at Shibuya station as a highly respected statue. The name HACHIKO was even given to the nearest station exit.
Atmos wanted to pay tribute to the faithful dog, which is part of Japanese culture, through this new version of the adidas Originals SUPERSTAR. It’s dressed in beige faux dog hair with brown accents on the side 3-Stripe, heel tab and laces. To complete the look, the tongue branding is engraved on a silver metal plate and the address where the HACHIKO statue is located is inscribed on the side of the cream midsole. The shell toe, inner lining and insole featuring special « YOU MAKE SHIBUYA » branding and an illustration of HACHIKO are also featured in cream.
The atmos x adidas Originals SUPERSTAR DOG « HACHIKO » will be released on September 18, 2021 in stores and online via an open raffle at atmos-tokyo.com starting September 14, 2021. It will then be available on September 25, 2021 on the adidas Confirmed app and on adidas.com. The price is set at 140$ ( ¥15,400). As part of the « official Shibuya neighborhood souvenir project », a part of the proceeds will be donated to the city.
