L’une des marques de sport les plus appréciées du moment NEW BALANCE poursuit sur son élan de collaborations accrocheuses. Quelques jours après la sortie du duo de NB 1906R revisité par GANNI, le label de Boston dévoile une 990v6 retravaillée par la marque japonaise WTAPS.
Au cours des 2 dernières années, WTAPS, le label d’inspiration militaire fondé par Tetsu Nishiyama en 1996, et NEW BALANCE avait collaboré sur les silhouettes 992 et 990v2.
Ce nouvel opus, basé sur le modèle 990v6 et nommé « Made in USA », arbore un look combinant l’héritage des 2 marques.
La sneaker opte pour une palette de couleurs en différents tons de gris et blanc cassé. Elle se compose d’un upper en mesh avec des superpositions en daim de porc et un logo N latéral au motif strié et contours blancs. Pour ajouter une belle touche de contraste et d’originalité, le contrefort de talon apparaît en cuir blanc et se voit orné de la mention grise oversize « USA » à la place du traditionnel « 990 ». Au niveau de l’arrière du talon, on découvre le branding WTAPS et « MADE IN U.S.A. » apposés sur le renfort en TPU. Pour affirmer la collab, la chaussure bénéficie également d’une insole co-brandée « New Balance Running WTAPS ». L’ensemble repose sur une midsole FuelCell bicolore blanche/grise et sur une outsole en caoutchouc gris qui apportent la touche finale harmonieuse au design.

For the past 2 years, WTAPS, the military-inspired label founded by Tetsu Nishiyama in 1996, and NEW BALANCE had collaborated on the 992 and 990v2 silhouettes.
This new opus, based on the 990v6 model and named « Made in USA », sports a look combining the heritage of the 2 brands.
The sneaker opts for a color scheme in varying shades of grey and off-white. It consists of a mesh upper with pig suede overlays and a side N logo with a striated pattern and white outlines. To add a nice touch of contrast and originality, the heel counter appears in white leather and is adorned with the oversized grey mention « USA » instead of the traditional « 990 ». At the back of the heel, we discover the branding WTAPS and « MADE IN U.S.A. » affixed to the TPU reinforcement. To affirm the collaboration, the shoe also benefits from a co-branded « New Balance Running WTAPS » insole. The whole is based on a two-tone white/grey FuelCell midsole and a grey rubber outsole that bring the harmonious final touch to the design.
The WTAPS x New Balance 990v6 « Made in USA » will be released on September 1, 2023, at select retailers and online at wtaps.base.shop.
