La célèbre marque streetwear d’Amsterdam PATTA continue d’enchaîner les collaborations pleines de sens. Après avoir récemment fait équipe avec le fabriquant de chaussure SEBAGO (article dispo ICI), le label co-fondé par Edson Sabajo s’associe à l’artiste-activiste des Blacks Panthers, Emory Douglas.
Connu à la fois comme activiste politique et artiste graphiste, Emory Douglas a été le Ministre de la Culture du Black Panther party de 1967 jusqu’aux années 80, lorsque le groupe a été dissous. Directeur artistique et illustrateur du journal hebdomadaire « The Black Panther », il a diffusé sa touche artistique synonyme de l’identité des mouvements de libération au-delà des frontières. Son iconographie représentait l’oppression de tous les habitants du monde entier et était solidaire des groupes marginalisés. Ses graphismes à lignes épaisses et sa façon de décrire les oppressés comme des révoltés et non pas comme des victimes, a rendu son style unique. Il illustre les idéologies du groupe telles que l’entreaide, le partage et le lien social. Le travail d’Emory Douglas a influencé des révolutionnaires de tous les pays et ses œuvres ont été exposées dans des musées aux 4 coins du monde.
PATTA a voulu rendre hommage aux convictions et aux œuvres de ce grand homme avec une collection capsule engagée. On retrouve des illustrations et des messages forts d’Emory Douglas apposés sur une gamme de vêtements se présentant en blanc ou en noir. Le slogan « All Power To The People » est brodé en blanc sur une casquette noire en cuir. Il apparaît également sur un hoodie noir aux cotés d’un dessin de vendeur de journaux. Un livre ouvert avec le mot « FREEDOM » décore la face avant du t-shirt blanc à manches courtes. La collection est complétée par une Coach jacket noire avec une illustration au dos et comportant un écusson sur la poitrine qui diffuse le message « DARE TO STRUGGLE, DARE TO WIN » (OSER LUTTER, OSER GAGNER).

Known as both a political activist and graphic artist, Emory Douglas was the Minister of Culture for the Black Panther Party from 1967 until the 1980s, when the group disbanded. As art director and illustrator of the weekly newspaper « The Black Panther », he spread his artistic touch synonymous with the identity of liberation movements across borders. His iconography represented the oppression of all people around the world and stood in solidarity with marginalized groups. His thick line graphics and his depiction of the oppressed as rebels, not victims, made his style unique. He illustrates group ideologies such as helping each other, sharing and social connection. Emory Douglas’ work has influenced revolutionaries from all over the world and his work has been exhibited in museums around the world.
PATTA wanted to pay tribute to the beliefs and works of this great man with a committed capsule collection. Emory Douglas’ illustrations and strong messages are featured on a range of garments in both white and black. The slogan « All Power To The People » is embroidered in white on a black leather cap. It also appears on a black hoodie alongside a drawing of a newspaper vendor. An open book with the word « FREEDOM » decorates the front of the white short-sleeved t-shirt. The collection is completed with a black Coach jacket with an illustration on the back and featuring a patch on the chest that reads « DARE TO STRUGGLE, DARE TO WIN ».
The PATTA x Emory Douglas collection will be released on June 18, 2021 on the brand’s website patta.nl and on its mobile app. Thereafter, it will be available through PATTA stores in London, Milan and Amsterdam. Be ready !
