Ce vendredi 17 mars 2022, une grosse soirée a eu lieu au Metronum de Toulouse. La salle de spectacle du quartier Borderouge a accueilli une légende du reggae dancehall français : YANISS ODUA. L’artiste né en Martinique nous a livré une prestation de grande qualité, avec le groupe de musiciens de l’ARTIKAL BAND.
Depuis 35 ans, Yaniss Odua fait partie du paysage reggae roots dancehall français. Il a commencé à chanter en 1988, à l’âge de 10 ans. C’est son cousin, DJ Daddy Harry, qui l’a fait monter sur scène pour la toute 1ère fois à cette période. Le tout début d’une longue carrière ! Passionné de la musique de la Jamaïque de Bob Marley et Peter Tosh, Yaniss Odua est aussi un artiste dancehall indiscutable. En plus de ses albums et différents projets, il apparaît sur plusieurs compilations des années 90/2000 et a feat avec d’autres grands noms, comme Straïka D, Big Red et Daddy Mory.
30 ans après son 1er album « La Méthode » (1992) sous son ancien pseudo ‘Little Yaniss’, l’artiste martiniquais a sorti « Stay High » en mai dernier et s’est lancé dans une tournée très attendue par son public fidèle.
Le concert au Metronum a été organisé par Talowa Prod, une société toulousaine qui fait vivre le reggae, dub, hip-hop et autres musiques du monde sur les scènes de France et d’Europe depuis plus de 15 ans.
Avant l’arrivée sur scène de Yaniss Odua et de l’Artikal Band, le sound system BLACKOUT a pris place pour une session à l’ancienne comme on les aime tant ! Tchalys, Selecta Bisso et Mix Killaz ont balancé des morceaux légendaires via des vinyles (45 tours) de Buju Banton, Capleton, Luciano, Sizzla, pour ne citer qu’eux.
Ensuite, le batteur/chanteur de l’Artikal Band, Asha D a laissé sa batterie et s’est présenté seul sur scène pour nous partager quelques morceaux de son album « Roots Meditation » sorti il y a un mois (février 2023).
Après cette 1ère partie hyper qualitative, le public était bien chaud pour accueillir Yaniss Odua. Accompagné des talentueux musiciens de l’Artikal Band avec lesquels il performe depuis plus de 10 ans : le batteur-chanteur Asha D, le guitariste Ilon Ba, le bassiste Fab, les 2 clavistes Doc et Flora (qui chante aussi), ainsi que les 2 choristes Queen Natty et Emi, l’artiste antillais a débarqué sur la scène du Metronum avec le son de 2017 ‘Ecoutez nous’. Yaniss Odula a rempli la salle du Metronum de sa good vibe iconique et nous a livré un show de grande qualité jusqu’à 23h30.
‘Ecoutez nous’ a été enchaîné avec 2 sons issus de son nouvel album « Stay High » : « Viser l’horizon » et « Qui vivra verra » avant de jouer des morceaux plus anciens comme « Rabat joie » et « Moment idéal », puis revenir sur la nouveauté avec « Kité yo palé ». Yaniss Odua aussi échangé avec la foule, lui exposant sa passion pour le reggae mais aussi sa reconnaissance d’être toujours présente pour lui. La soirée s’est poursuivie avec « Reggae Land » et le fameux hit « La Caraïbe » scandé en coeur avec le public ultra chaud. Restant sur la vibe old school et l’énergie folle de la soirée, l’artiste a expliqué ses débuts et a exposé sa période dancehall en nous offrant un Medley de cette époque, incluant le banger « Qui est-ce qui « . L’ambiance était au top, le public sautait, dansait, criait !
Yaniss a continué avec « Jai la rage », « Allez », « Lioness », « Nouvelle Donne » et « Stay High ». La foule, déjà ravie du show, a hurlé sa joie dés les premières notes du morceau suivant « Chalawa », qui a presque 10 ans. Pour maintenir la real good vibe et signer la fin du concert, les artistes ont joué « Rouge Jaune Vert », l’hymne Rastafari de l’artiste. La salle s’est agrémentée de nombreux drapeaux rouge/jaune/vert brandé Yaniss Odua, avec un public chantant à l’unisson avec les artistes le célèbre refrain : « J’aimerais voir flotter dans les airs, Le drapeau Rouge Jaune Vert, Que le Conquering Lion, Fasse partie de l’atmosphère, De la joie, de la bonne humeur, Pour mes soeurs et mes frères, Le maximum de Vibes positives, On laisse place au bonheur ! »
Pas du tout prêtes à quitte la salle, les personnes du public ont hurlé pour que Yaniss Odua et l’Artikal Band reviennent sur scène. Toujours aussi chauds, les artistes sont réapparus en jouant « Blees I Soul », le duo de Yaniss et Asha D aux accents méga roots. Le concert s’est véritablement terminé dans la ‘joie et la bonne humeur’ avec 2 sons du nouvel album : « Enfants du monde » et « Destinée ».
Le concert du « Stay High Tour » de Yaniss Odua au Metronum était le show où tous les toulousains amateurs de reggae devaient être ! L’artiste et ses musiciens ont joué avec passion et sincérité pendant près de 2h, en totale harmonie avec le public. L’ambiance était top, la vibe légendaire. Yaniss a dit qu’il reviendrait, nous avons hâte !
Commencée le 10 février 2023, la tournée se poursuit le 24.03 au MV Lounge de Nouméa (NC) avec Natty Jean/en sound system, le 31.03 à l’Espace To’Ata de Papeete (987) avec Danakil, le 06.04 au Bloody Mary’s de Bora Bora (987) avec Danakil/en sound system, le 08.04 au Chapiteau Tumaraa de Raiatea (987) avec Danakil, puis le 01.07 au Summer’s Grenay Festival de Grenay (62) et le 15.07 au Festival Murmure du Son à Eu (76). [:en]This Friday, March 17, 2022, a big night took place at the Metronum in Toulouse. The theater of the Borderouge district welcomed a legend of the French reggae dancehall : YANISS ODUA. The artist born in Martinique (Rench West Indies) delivered a high quality performance, with the group of musicians of the ARTIKAL BAND.
For 35 years, Yaniss Odua has been part of the French roots dancehall landscape. He started singing in 1988, at the age of 10. It’s his cousin, DJ Daddy Harry, who made him go on stage for the very first time at that period. The very beginning of a long career ! Passionate about the Jamaican music of Bob Marley and Peter Tosh, Yaniss Odua is also an indisputable dancehall artist. In addition to his albums and various projects, he appears on several compilations of the 90s/2000 and has feat with other big names, like Straïka D, Big Red and Daddy Mory.
30 years after his first album « La Méthode » (1992) under his former pseudonym ‘Little Yaniss’, the Martinican artist released « Stay High » last May and embarked on a tour eagerly awaited by his loyal audience.
The concert at the Metronum was organized by Talowa Prod, a Toulouse-based company that has been bringing reggae, dub, hip-hop and other world music to life on stages in France and Europe for over 15 years.
Before the arrival on stage of Yaniss Odua and the Artikal Band, the sound system BLACKOUT took place for a session in the old way as we like them so much ! Tchalys, Selecta Bisso and Mix Killaz threw legendary tracks via vinyls of Buju Banton, Capleton, Luciano, Sizzla, to name a few.
Then, the drummer/vocalist of the Artikal Band, Asha D left his drums and came alone on stage to share with us some tracks from his album « Roots Meditation » released a month ago (February 2023).
After this very qualitative first part, the public was very hot to welcome Yaniss Odua. Accompanied by the talented musicians of the Artikal Band with whom he performs for over 10 years : the drummer-singer Asha D, the guitarist Ilon Ba, the bassist Fab, the 2 keyboardists Doc and Flora (who also sings), as well as the 2 choristers Queen Natty and Emi, the West Indian artist landed on the stage of the Metronum with the sound of 2017 « Listen to us ». Yaniss Odula filled the room of the Metronum with his iconic good vibe and delivered a show of great quality until 23:30.
« Ecoutez nous » was chained with 2 sounds from his new album « Stay High »: « Viser l’horizon » and « Qui vivra verra » before playing older tracks like « Rabat joie » and « Moment idéal », then back to the new with « Kité yo palé ». Yaniss Odua also exchanged with the crowd, exposing his passion for reggae but also his gratitude to be always present for him. The evening continued with « Reggae Land » and the famous hit « La Caraïbe » chanted in heart with the ultra hot public. Staying on the old school vibe and the crazy energy of the evening, the artist explained his beginnings and exposed his dancehall period by offering us a Medley of this time, including the banger « Qui est-ce qui « . The atmosphere was at the top, the public jumped, danced, shouted !
Yaniss continued with « Jai la rage », « Allez », « Lioness », « Nouvelle Donne » and « Stay High ». The crowd, already delighted with the show, screamed their joy from the first notes of the next song « Chalawa », which is almost 10 years old. To maintain the real good vibe and sign the end of the concert, the artists played « Rouge Jaune Vert », the Rastafari anthem of the artist. The room was adorned with many red/yellow/green flags brandished by Yaniss Odua, with the crowd singing in unison with the artists the famous refrain : « J’aimerais voir flotter dans les airs, Le drapeau Rouge Jaune Vert, Que le Conquering Lion, Fasse partie de l’atmosphère, De la joie, de la bonne humeur, Pour mes soeurs et mes frères, Le maximum de Vibes positives, On laisse place au bonheur ! »
Not at all ready to leave the room, the audience screamed for Yaniss Odua and the Artikal Band to come back on stage. Always as hot, the artists reappeared playing « Blees I Soul », the duet of Yaniss and Asha D with mega roots accents. The concert really ended in the ‘joy and good mood’ with 2 sounds of the new album : « Enfants du monde » and « Destinée ».
The concert of the « Stay High Tour » of Yaniss Odua at the Metronum was the show where all the reggae lovers of Toulouse had to be ! The artist and his musicians played with passion and sincerity for almost 2 hours, in total harmony with the audience. The atmosphere was top, the vibe legendary. Yaniss said he would come back, we can’t wait !
