Les célèbres marques américaines KITH et VANS dévoilent un nouveau volet de leur campagne « Love Thy Community » lancée l’année dernière. Ce nouvel et 5ème opus met en lumière le légendaire shop du Queens et label indépendant de musique Reggae, VP Records.
« Love Thy Community » est un programme collaboratif inspiré par l’initiative de 2020 de Vans « Foot the Bill » axée sur les petites entreprises et de « Community » de KITH de 2021 mettant en avant les sociétés locales appartenant à des minorités.
Vincent et Patricia Chin sont les fondateurs de VP Records. Originaires de Kingston en Jamaïque, ils se sont unis à travers leur passion commune pour la musique. Le couple a ouvert un magasin et une usine de production à la fin des années 1950 – début des années 1960 en Jamaïque. Des lieux fréquentés par des artistes phare comme Bob Marley, Peter Tosh ou encore Gregory Isaacs. Au milieu des années 1970 politiquement turbulentes, ces amoureux de la musique Reggae ont déménagé dans le Queens, NY, et se sont lancés dans la reconstruction de leur business à partir de zéro.
Depuis son ouverture en 1979, VP Records a toujours dirigé l’industrie de la musique Reggae et a même été honoré du titre du ‘Meilleur label indépendant’ en publiant des albums à grand succès qui ont remporté des prix et des nominations, comme ‘Stay Focus’ de Sizzla, ‘Strip Tease’ de Lady Saw ou encore ‘Reign of Fire’ de Capleton, pour ne citer qu’eux. Patricia Chin a aussi été la toute première femme à recevoir le prix ‘A2IM Libera’ pour l’ensemble de ses réalisations. VP Records se distingue et reste très apprécié pour ses valeurs. Cette entreprise est toujours restée profondément enracinée dans sa communauté et possède une forte éthique familiale. Les petits-enfants de Patricia, CJ, Stephen et Stephanie s’investissent activement les opérations quotidiennes de la boutique et du label.
Avec KITH et Vault By Vans, VP Records a créé une collection capsule qui incarne l’esprit de sa communauté. Elle comprend une Vans Authentic OG et un t-shirt graphique collaboratifs.
La sneaker en toile se présente de couleur noire avec un motif vert vif inspiré d’une pochette d’un vinyle produit par VP Records. Pour affirmer la collab, le branding ‘VP Records’ rouge et blanc est brodé sur le talon latéral. La paire se pare également d’un tag jaune Vans cousu sur le quarter panel et du traditionnel badge rouge ‘Off The Wall’ sur l’arrière de la semelle. Des lacets blanc cassé assortis à la midsole finalisent harmonieusement le look.
Le t-shirt à manches courtes 100% coton apparaît de couleur blanche et orné de graphismes de couleur ‘rouge/jaune/verte’ inspirés des décorations du magasin. Sur la poitrine, on découvre le logo VP Records. Le dos comporte les illustrations d’un danseur et d’une danseuse, le co-branding et les inscriptions ‘Kingston Jamaica’ et ‘Queens Jamaica’.

« Love Thy Community » is a collaborative program inspired by Vans’ 2020 « Foot the Bill » enabled small business initiative and KITH’s 2021 « Community » highlighting local minority-owned businesses.
Vincent and Patricia Chin are the founders of VP Records. Originally from Kingston, Jamaica, they came together through their common passion for music. The couple opened a store and production plant in the late 1950s – early 1960s in Jamaica. Places cited by leading artists such as Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Gregory Isaacs. In the politically turbulent mid-1970s, these Reggae music lovers moved to Queens, NY, and set out to rebuild their business from the ground up.
Since its opening in 1979, VP Records has always led the Reggae music industry and has even been honored with the title of ‘Best Independent Label’ by releasing blockbuster albums that have won awards and nominations, such as ‘Stay Focus’ by Sizzla, ‘Strip Tease’ by Lady Saw or even ‘Reign of Fire’ by Capleton, to name but a few. Patricia Chin was also the very first woman to receive the ‘A2IM Libera’ Lifetime Achievement Award. VP Records stands out and remains highly appreciated for its values. This company has always remained rooted in its community and has a strong family ethic. Patricia’s grandchildren, CJ, Stephen and Stephanie are involved in the day-to-day operations of the boutique and the label.
With KITH and Vault By Vans, VP Records has created a capsule collection that embodies the spirit of its community. It includes a collaborative Vans Authentic OG and graphic t-shirt.
The canvas sneaker comes in a black color with a bright green pattern inspired by the cover of a vinyl produced by VP Records. To affirm the collab, the red and white ‘VP Records’ branding is embroidered on the side heel. The pair is also adorned with a yellow Vans tag sewn on the quarter panel and the traditional red ‘Off The Wall’ badge on the back of the sole. Off-white laces matching the midsole harmoniously finalize the look.
The 100% cotton short sleeve t-shirt appears white in color and features ‘red/yellow/green’ color graphics inspired by store decorations. On the chest, we discover the VP Records logo. The back features male and female dancer illustrations, co-branding and ‘Kingston Jamaica’ and ‘Queens Jamaica’ lettering.
