The famous British designer Vivienne Westwood continues her successful partnership with the Japanese equipment manufacturer ASICS. After bringing her personal touch to the retro-futuristic GEL-Kayano 27 LTX silhouette (article available HERE), the « enfant terrible of fashion » revisits the classic Low version. A collaborative GEL-Kayano 27 with a bold design is presented to us in 2 colorways : « White/Lichen Rock » and « Lichen Green/Brown ».
According to the renowned designer, « This GEL-Kayano 27 references both the origins of the classic sneaker style and Westwood’s own history of deconstructed, DIY design ».
This shoe combines an aesthetic tied to Haute Couture and performance. It comes in a color palette of white, black, pink and dark lichen green for the first version and dark lichen green, orange, white, orange and blue for the second.
The sneaker consists of a modified mesh upper to improve breathability. At the toe and wrapping around the sides, we discover an overstitched print that brings a touch of originality to the pair. A reminder of this pattern appears on the two-tone laces. To affirm the collaboration, Vivienne Westwood branding details stand out above the iconic Tigers Stripes on the sides, as well as on the laceguard. On each colorway, the toe, ankle area and collar are dressed in contrasting colors and adorned with reflective elements. The asics branding adorns the tongue label and the co-branding is found on the insole. The whole is based on a high performance and comfortable midsole, benefiting from the DYNAMIC DUOMAX tooling that reduces pressure on the foot, and the SPACE TRUSSTIC technology that allows for smoother running transitions. A black rubber outsole finalizes the look.
The Vivienne Westwood x Asics GEL-Kayano 27, available in 2 colorways, will be released on April 30, 2021 at select retailers and on woodwood.com, priced at 250$.
