British designer Vivienne Westwood once again partners with the Japanese brand Asics. After proposing collaborative pairs with designs inspired by Renaissance art, the « enfant terrible of fashion » brings her punk and new wave touch to the Asics GEL-Kayano 26 running shoe. Two color options are presented to us : black and white.
The shoes are monochrome and feature an innovative design.
The upper, black or white depending on the iteration, is totally covered with a rigid mesh mesh upper in tone-on-tone, a nod to Vivienne Westwood’s British punk and new wave influences of the 80s. These sneakers are therefore adorned with a unique look that is completely different from the original silhouette.
The traditional lacing system is replaced by a drawstring, allowing an optimal and personalized fit. In terms of branding, the tiger stripes are barely visible on the side panels, the Asics logo discreetly appears on the top of the tongue and the globe topped with a crown, Vivienne Westwood’s signature, adorns the heel. The combination of FlyteFoam technology and exclusive GEL cushioning in a high-performance midsole provides premium comfort and support. On the black pair, this midsole is black with a silver gradient on the forefoot, while on the white shoe, the midsole is perfectly matched to the upper. The outsole is black for both iterations.
The release of the Vivienne Westwood x Asics GEL Kayano 26 in black and white colorway is announced for September 28, 2020, at selected retailers such as Naked. The recommended retail price is 180€ per pair.
