A few weeks ago, I told you in an article (available HERE) about the first collaboration between Atlanta multidisciplinary rapper TRINIDAD JAME$ and the sneaker brand Saucony.
For the first steps of his HOMMEWRK brand, the artist presents a very first collaboration that makes sense for him. This Saucony corresponds to a sneaker he owned as an immigrant when he moved to America. It also marks SAUCONY’s first footwear collaboration with a musician.
Launched at the November 2021 ComplexCon in Long Beach, California in limited quantities, the collaborative shoe pays homage to TRINIDAD JAME$’s favorite drink, the Sorrel, made from dried hibiscus flower petals.
It comes in a red/pink combination and mixes materials reminiscent of the classic Trinidadian recipe. We find a textured red leather base with a matching tongue, a soft TPU toe box, tonal suede overlays at the eyelets and heel. To complete the tribute, elements are dressed in pink, such as the iconic « river » logo on the side, the heel tab, the semi-translucent overlay on the toe and most of the midsole (the remaining part under the heel is dressed in red). The HOMMEWRK branding engraved in pink on the leather tongue and affixed in yellow on the heel affirms the collab. To ensure inspiration, a hibiscus flower is embroidered on the inside of the tongue, the pink insole features the slogan « DO YOUR HMMWKD » and 3 sets of matching laces are included. The whole is based on a glossy pink outsole that provides the final harmonious touch.
I find the pair original and even eccentric. This last one corresponds perfectly to the universe of TRINIDAD JAME$. If you want to stand out from all that is currently seen, I would advise you to get this model.
