One of the most famous uncles of France, TONTON GIBS, presents his new book : « CULTISSIMES SNEAKERS 2.0 », an updated and expanded version of his initial book released just two years ago. Like its predecessor, this new book is written by an enthusiast and dedicated to all, fans and non-enthusiasts alike.
The sneaker crosses generations without losing popularity, it has become an essential product of fashion.
On November 4, 2020, the famous French sneaker youtuber presented « CULTISSIMES SNEAKERS », a real encyclopedia on sneakers and culture. This book tells the story of each great cult brand, traces the history of iconic pairs, highlights legendary collabs and presents active members of the sneaker community. All complete with very nice anecdotes !
Two years later, Uncle Gibs presents « CULTISSIMES SNEAKERS 2.0 », which includes 20 more exclusive pages. This updated version consists of a total of 304 pages. It’s adorned with reworked parts and exposes some very interesting news.
We discover the portraits and interviews of designers who have been influential in the last 2 years : the French Youssouf Fofana, who has collaborated with Nike twice through his brand Maison Château Rouge, on the Air Jordan 1 Mid and Air Jordan 2. Also, the one that all the big brands are after : Salehe Bembury, the former Versace designer who founded his brand SPUNGE and regularly designs highly successful collaborations with cult labels. An interview with the French Lisa Caira, head of design at Le Coq Sprotif, sheds light on the hidden side of collabs, seen from the side of brands and companies.
Among the 20 new pages, some are dedicated to the exceptional collections of dj/rapper/composer/producer Teki Latex and marketing consultant who has worked for iconic music labels, Uncle Texaco, as well as the bespoke of sneakers. Bespoke is an art/craft that is an integral part of sneaker culture. Uncle Gibs takes us to Le Bottier Toulousain (LBT), a shoe and sneaker workshop located in the heart of the pink city, which combines know-how and innovation. It’s with these specialists, Nicolas Fournes and Jean-Emmanuel Pialoux, that Tonton Gibs was able to manufacture entirely his Air Jordan VI « Rotterdam » at the beginning of the year.
The book also looks back on the last 2 years of sneaker releases, including the highlight of the AM1 Patta, NB Joe Freshgoods, AJ4 Union or the pack Off-White x Nike Dunk Low « The 50 ».
The book honors the career of the late visionary designer Virgil Abloh, who left us on November 28, 2021. A beautiful tribute is paid to him.
