Markus Greulich, aka @solemate86 on Instagram, is a huge sneaker enthusiast and more specifically NIKE Air Max 1. About 2 years ago, he started looking for a complete book about the legendary silhouette designed by Tinker Hatfield in 1986. Not having found any book answering his request, the German sneakerhead decided to create it himself. After a year of work, this graphic designer presents his « AM1 Catalogue » entitled « THE ONES ».
This book brings together a wide range of Air Max 1 colors, dating from 1986 to 2021, on more than 470 pages.
Markus Greulich explained : « I had the title ‘THE ONES’ in mind for a long time, because I thought it would fit perfectly. »
He began by creating the layout of the book, and then began to photograph his beautiful personal collection and incorporate it into the book.
In order to enrich his project, the author called upon the community who immediately responded, very enthusiastic about the idea of this book dedicated to AM1. Thus, the relatives of @solemate86, with whom he exchanges on the WhatApps group « Air Max 1 Sluts », sent photos of their pairs to be included in « THE ONES ». Little by little, the news spread and the enthusiast behind the project received a lot of photos from other lovers of the famous sneaker with the visible air bubble. Markus Greulich commented : « So the book is for the community by the community. »
Each pair featured in the book has the name of the corresponding colorway and mentions its owner by their Instagram handle. The goal is to honor the participants of the project, but also to allow sneakerheads to discover each other and follow each other to expand, even more, the international community.
The author concludes with a sentence that symbolizes the spirit of the sneaker Community : « If by leafing through the book you discover new colors that you had never seen before, then the book has served its purpose ! »
