Last September, the pioneer streetwear brand STÜSSY teased its upcoming collaboration with the American giant NIKE. After several joint projects (various articles available on this site), Shawn Stussy’s label unveiled a revisited Air Penny 2 in black. This special version will be released along with a two-tone black/green iteration.
This b-ball silhouette is launched in 1996 by the legendary Penny Hardaway and was last reissued in 2016 for its 20th anniversary.
Reworked by STÜSSY, the 2nd signature shoe of famous NBA player sports a simple and understated look for the black version, and more bold for the two-tone iteration.
The 1st consists of a black hemp upper with matching overlays. While the 2nd features a flashy green suede upper and a black textile lower. The rest of the construction and design is identical. The pairs benefit from black colored elements, such as the tongue, round laces and braided heel and tongue pulls. A touch of contrast is provided by the branding details : the Swoosh on the tongue, insole and heel, as well as the Stüssy logo on the quarter panel. The name of the Californian label is also engraved on the tip of the outsole. The whole is based on a stately black Zoom Air outsole with embossing and wavy finishes. Additional details include the two-tone version with red accents underfoot and a clear Air unit.
These pairs will come with an extra set of laces and a custom box for the occasion.
The Stüssy x Nike Air Penny 2 duo will be released exclusively on the streetwear brand’s website stussy.com on December 16, 2022 for $200 each, before being available via Nike’s SNKRS app on December 20, 2022.
