The talented designer-creator of the German brand SONRA, Hikmet Sugör, has unveiled a brand new version of the Proto II silhouette on his Instagram account. This MiG shoe named « Katzenzunge » is adorned with a design inspired by the most popular pet in the world : the cat, and more specifically its tongue.
Cats have an amazing tongue. The spines that cover it are actually small, hollow, spoon-shaped papillae. They are rigid thanks to the keratin they contain. With a total of 300 papillae, each measuring about 500mm long, they allow the cat to wet the base of its hair with saliva. They work like a straw : the water (saliva) rises inside through the small cavity, and they act like a hairbrush.
Hikmet Sugör pays homage to this very special tongue and presents us a shoe « Made in Germany » dressed in pink, the color of the tongue and papillae of the cat. This hue is found on the premium suede tongue of the shoe, the inner lining and the laces. All around these strategic parts referring to the cat’s tongue, we discover a base in dark grey premium grained leather, reminiscent of the color of the hair of the most common cats. The toe box is perforated to add a little relief. Overlays throughout the foot, the SONRA logo on the side panels and the model name on the heel counter appear to match the upper. This design harmony perfectly highlights the pink parts of the shoe. The whole is based on a white midsole combined with a rubber outsole.
The SONRA proto II « Katzenzunge » will be released on March 28, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. (NY time), via a raffle available on the brand’s website sonra.de. Limited to 100 pairs worldwide, this special edition « Made in Germany » is priced at 290€.
