Two years ago, two Malaysian references : the streetwear shop HUNDRED% and the biggest sneaker event in the country SNEAKERLAH joined the Japanese brand ASICS to participate in the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the iconic GEL-Lyte III. After offering us a special version inspired by the Petronas twin towers in Kuala Lumpur, the partners decided to rework this silhouette at the split tongue once again.
Bryan Chin of SneakerLah explained that whenever they have the opportunity, he and this team will highlight the Malaysian culture and share it with the rest of the world through eye catching collabs.
This exclusive GEL-Lyte III pays homage to another Malaysian specialty, « Teh Tarik », a popular hot milk tea drink. Although this « pulled tea » is not exactly Malaysian in origin, it has been adopted by all and appears as the « unofficial » national drink.
Hundred% and SneakerLah dressed the GEL-Lyte III in the colors of this drink consumed daily by the majority of Malaysians.
It comes in shades of caramel beige to match the color variations of milk tea. The 2 feet are not quite identical. However, there are hairy suede overlays that mimic the foam of the Teh Tarik and interchangeable Tigers Stripes (beige to brown) representing the splashes made by the hot milk tea process. On the other side of the foot, the iconic asics stripes are featured in pastel pink color, as are the heel pulls. Other special details, the side panels are dressed in a material that lets light through, and the ASICS branded insoles are adorned with a circle and smudge pattern that evokes the marks left by Teh Tarik’s glass on the table. The pair features LaH branding embossed on the toe box. To complete the homage, the whole is based on a cream midsole and translucent outsole that recalls the shiny surface of Malaysian cafe tables.
This GEL-Lyte III « Teh Tarik » will come with 2 sets of laces, one white and one pastel pink, and in a co-branded packaging imitating loose tea bags.
The SneakerLah x Hundred% x asics GEL-LYTE III « Teh Tarik » will be released on December 3, 2022 in store and December 4, 2022 online via a raffle on the sneakerLah and hundred% website. The price is set at $156 (RM699) and shipping is international, let’s go !
