The 30th anniversary of the iconic Asics GEL-Lyte continues to be celebrated by two Malaysian entities : the streetwear shop HUNDRED% and the largest sneaker event in the country SNEAKERLAH. This triple collaboration called « Kuala Lumpur Twin Towers » is inspired by the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur, reputed to be among the tallest in the world.
The color palette of the shoe closely resembles the design of these Twin Towers.
The silver metallic mesh upper with matching overlays refers to the aesthetics of the towers. The Tigers Stripes on the quarter panel are reflective to represent the reflection on the windows during the different hours of the day. To complete the tribute to this extraordinary building, the green color of the heel clip and translucent outsole matches the tint of the windows of both towers. The inscription « Lah » on the heel clip not only affirms the collaboration but also pays tribute to the Malaysian people. Indeed, the word « Lah » is part of the Malaysian slang commonly used in popular conversation. On the legendary split tongue, one discovers a text stating the general facts about the Twin Towers of Kuala Lumpur. To go further in the tribute and the details, the speckles effect on the cream-colored midsole is reminiscent of the rain droplets that fall on the building’s windows during the rainy season.
