In September, the talented American designer Sean Wotherspoon started teasing a future adidas ZX 8000 collaborative on his Instagram account (article available HERE). Today, the pair is fully unveiled and follows the adidas Superstar « SuperEarth », which the two partners proposed to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the cult silhouette of the German brand.
For this second project designed in collaboration with Adidas, Sean Wotherspoon is taking up the title « SuperEarth » that appeared on the Superstar. This shoe also seems to be made in part using recycled and sustainable materials, in an eco-responsible approach dear to Wotherspoon and adidas.
The multicolored and mismatched sneaker consists of an upper combining various types of fabrics and prints, associated in a patchwork way. For example, we find burlap inserts, green, purple and white check patterns, and a large flower embroidered with red or white thread reminiscent of the Superstar design. The name « Super Earth », claiming the preservation of our planet, is inscribed in blue on the top yellow tongue of the left shoe. The adidas brand appears in embroidery of several colors on the sides of the shoe and the revisited logo coupled with the initials of the American designer adorns the heel tab and the insole. The latter is covered with the checkered print on the upper, showing the attention to detail. A transparent heel counter, visible seams and scattered stitching on the shoe complete the « unfinished experimental » look. The whole is based on a white sole with a blue clip on the front side and a yellow clip on the back, as well as the red SW signature torsion bar under the foot.
The Sean Wotherspoon x adidas ZX 8000 is expected to be released in February 2021 at selected retailers and on adidas.com. Rumour has it that the pair will be part of the adidas A-ZX series for 2020-21… Stay tuned.
