Teased since the end of August (article available HERE), the next highly anticipated footwear collab between Salehe Bembury and New Balance has just appeared in more detail on the talented designer’s Instagram account. Once again, Salehe Bembury invited actor (and friend) Jesse Williams to highlight his new creation through a promotional video : an exclusive NB 574 YURT.
The designer and founder of the SPUNGE brand reworked the 574 silhouette to make it more rugged.
Named « 574 YURT », it’s inspired by the traditional habitat of Central Asian nomads and the landscapes that surround them. The most noticeable change is the ABZORB midsole with pebble-like lateral additions. The sneaker is also adorned with a novel accessory on a shoe : a whistle at the back of the heel. Surely a nod to the nomadic peoples, but also a tool that can be useful, even life-saving, in case of danger during an excursion.
As for the rest of the construction, the shoe features a base combining ballistic mesh and hairy suede with leather inserts. In terms of branding details, the iconic N logo adorns the sides of the shoe and the tongue tag features the NB acronym coupled with the YURT 574 model name.
First unveiled in shades of grey, the silhouette comes in navy blue, khaki green and burgundy on Jesse Williams’ feet. Perhaps the beginning of a new series…
The actor also appears wearing a co-branded fleece sweater, which could be part of the upcoming collaborative textile collection.
The Salehe Bembury x New Balance 574 « Yurt » is expected to be released very soon, certainly in correlation with the Salehe Bembury x New Balance apparel collection announced for the Fall/Winter 2021 season.
