Famous New York designer Ronnie Fieg reveals a little more detail every day about his upcoming collaboration with his long-time partner, Asics. The aim of this new project is to rework the Ronnie Fieg x Asics Gel Lyte III « 252 » pack released in 2007. After presenting the soft « Yoshino Rose » colorway a few hours ago (article available HERE), we officially discover the other two pairs from this Ronnie Fieg x Asics Gel Lyte III « Tokyo Trio » collection, paying tribute to Japanese culture and the evolution of KITH.
We find a revisited version of one of the original colorways of the pack. The colour palette of this shoe has been kept, but in more modern shades and in more popular materials.
The 2020 shoe consists of a salmon-pink suede upper on the toe box with pale pink on the toe area. The rest of the sneaker is covered in black nubuck with tone-on-tone overlays. The latter colour is applied to the inner lining, heel clip and laces to affirm the elegance of the pair and highlight the strong colour accents. Moreover, the FIEG name is very discreetly embroidered in black on the slit tongue in the same colour. The emblematic side tigers stripes are presented in a luminous gold colour, as in the 2007 iteration. The whole is based on a black misdsole and a tricolour outsole in black, blue and red respectively from toe to heel.
A pair referring to the postponed Tokyo Summer Olympic Games, named « Super Gold », is offered to us. The sneaker consists of a premium white leather upper with smooth white leather overlays. The design of the pair is completed by the pure white inner lining, laces, eyelets and heel clip. On this white background, the gold Asics stripes are highlighted and honored, probably a nod to the gold medal and the American Olympic team of which KITH has become an official partner. In terms of branding details, the FIEG name appears subtly engraved on the premium leather tongue, and the Asics brand and the Gel inscription are presented in red and blue respectively on the heel tab. The whole is based on a pure white midsole and a two-tone rubber outsole in black and red.
The three pairs composing this Ronnie FIEG x ASICS Gel Lyte III « Tokyo Trio » pack will be released on 27 July 2020 exclusively on KITH.com, in the KITH Tokyo boutique and in the New York KITH shop of Hirshleifers and Bergdorf Goodman, as well as in the KITH shop of London Selfridges. Each pair will be priced at 180€.
