After collaborating with Nike last year on a Kyrie 5 model, the Los Angeles streetwear brand ROKIT returns to its 2018 partner, CONVERSE, to offer us a shoe that pays tribute to the typical street sports of the City of Angels : skateboarding and basketball. Bam Barcena, the creative director of Rokit, wanted to express himself on a model that he particularly likes because of its indisputable classic side but in constant evolution: the Converse Chuck 70 High.
The pair, dressed all in black, is a reference to the streets on which skateboarders ride and the asphalt of the basketball courts where players compete.
In order to represent this universe and the shades of black that characterize it, the upper appears as a patchwork of various materials. It consists of sturdy canvas and textured ripstops, fused together with matt ribbon vinyl strips.
To accentuate the structured effect emanating from the upper, the shoe is covered with horizontal black stitching, reminiscent of the roads of L.A. and the Converse logo in black hairy fabric, positioned as usual on the ankles, appears as a roundabout that brings together the main roads of the city.
The laces, eyelets and tongue complete the monochrome black look. To assert the model’s efficient and straightforward style, there is a large branding label on the tongue with a strong text « Los Angeles 2020 Dedicated to those forever unbroken ».
In terms of delicate branding details, the Rokit logo : the brand name’s letter O, filled with bright orange, stands out on the laces and overlayed on the black stripe of the traditional white midsole. On the latter, the heel badge is black with the white branding inscriptions.
To complete the pair’s meticulous design, the translucent outsoles reveal a print on an orange background for the left foot and black for the right foot.
The CONVERSE x ROKIT Chuck High 70s, probably be released in a limited edition, will be available on May 14, 2020 on the Converse and Rokit websites for 110 €
It should be noticed that this pair will be proposed with textile items from both brands : an utility vest (119€) and a hoodie (89€).
