Rijksmuseum x Mizuno Wave Skyrise 2 & Contender pour le marathon TCS d’Amsterdam

Japanese equipment manufacturer MIZUNO unveils a brand new Wave Skyrise 2 and Contender on its social media channels honoring a long-standing partnership. These special versions were designed with the Rijksmuseum to celebrate the 21st collaboration between MIZUNO and the TCS Amsterdam Marathon.

The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam traces 800 years of Dutch history, with works by great masters like Rembrandt, Vermeer and Van Gogh. The museum also features an Asian pavilion with a variety of sculptures, Buddhas and kimonos. MIZUNO wanted to highlight its Japanese heritage through this 21st collaboration for the TCS Amsterdam Marathon.

The two reinterpreted silhouettes combine performance and lifestyle, with a subtle artistic touch taken from Japanese artwork.

Featuring MIZUNO’s best running technologies, MIZUNO ENERZY and MIZUNO WAVE, the Wave Skyrise 2 offers the most comfortable running experience possible, thanks in part to its soft cushioning with premium energy return. It comes in black/dark grey with gold and red accents. This performance shoe is adorned with a two-layer technical mesh and internal toe cap that offer premium fit and support, while allowing for great breathability. The side Run Bird and tongue branding are featured in gold, while the heel and underside of the outsole feature a Japanese « Chidori » pattern that means « Thousand Birds ». The name of the cultural venue Rijksmuseum stands out on the side of the white midsole, Amsterdam appears on the tongue pull and the insole is adorned with co-branding.

The Contender was recently pulled from the archives and is from the 1995 running catalog.  This neutral, lightweight silhouette has an aesthetic that can be placed between the Sky Medal and the Mondo Control. It appears today in a colorway mostly in shades of red. It features a mesh and suede upper with white elements, such as the side run bird logo, tongue branding, inner lining and midsole. The iconic Japanese Crane bird pattern adorns the side panels and tongue to elegantly showcase MIZUNO’s heritage. A co-branded insole and heel affirm the collab.

The Rijksmuseum x Mizuno Wave Skyrise 2 & Contender for the TCS Amsterdam Marathon have different release dates. The Wave Skyrise 2 is already available for 140€ on the website of the Japanese equipment manufacturer emea.mizuno.com and the Contender will arrive very soon for 110€.

For your information, the TCS Amsterdam Marathon will take place on October 17th.
