NEW BALANCE’s 991 silhouette continues to appeal to big names in sneaker design. The shops PATTA, STAY RATS, 43 Einhalb and Slam Jam, to name but a few, have already successfully reinterpreted this shoe in 2021 to celebrate its 20th anniversary (articles available on this site). Now it’s the turn of the famous Swedish store SNS (Sneakersnstuff) to bring its unique style to the classic silhouette.
The shop of Erik Fagerlind and Peter Jansson revisits and declines the NB 991 in 3 colorways.
One is more understated than the other two : in a combination of white/black/grey, while the other two, quite similar, display a bold color palette of white/bright yellow, complemented by teal blue for one and water green for the other.
All three feature a white perforated leather toe box, with smooth leather overlays and suede overlays.
On the most discreet white/black/grey pair, the overlay on the middle of the foot is in black suede, the mudguard in white leather and the heel reinforcement in grey suede.
On the other 2 versions, the midfoot overlay is dressed in bright yellow, the mudguard and heel overlay are presented in teal blue or water green suede, depending on the iteration.
On all 3 versions, New Balance branding details adorn the tongue and heel. The iconic sideways N logo stands out in black with white or grey outlines. The only reference to SNS appears on the white insole which features discreet black co-branding. To complete the look, all 3 pairs feature a white tongue and inner lining, grey upper eyelets, a two-tone white and grey midsole coupled with an outsole that is also two-tone but black and grey.
