The celebration of the 50th anniversary of the legendary adidas Superstar continues beyond the year 2020. Most likely delayed due to the global health crisis, the latest collaboration between the German giant and BAPE will be released as part of the Spring/Summer 2021 collection of the famous Japanese streetwear brand. To pay tribute to this iconic shoe, a duo of Superstar revisited is presented to us today.
These two versions, made in leather, adopt a different style. One remains close to the DNA of the adidas Superstar and the other is dressed in BAPE’s signature Camo print.
The first pair features the iconic black and white colors, a reference to the 1969 OG model. The white leather base is complemented by black inserts and gold branding details. This pair adopts a mismatched look in terms of the layout of the signatures of the two labels. Notably, the famous 3 black adidas stripes appear on one side for one foot and the BAPE star logo, also black, on the opposite side. This location is reversed for the other foot. At the heel tab, tongue and insole, the left shoe has the adidas brandings, while the right shoe has the BAPE logos. Gold dubraes engraved with BAPE’s name and aglets with branding inscriptions complete the design. The finishing touch is provided by a black leather lining, a shell toe and a sole in off white color.
The second pair features the colorful camo print of the Japanese brand. Each panel has its own unique finish, adorned with a blue, purple, black or red background. The leather laceguard also comes in a different color. The side panels feature the signatures of both brands in contrasting white leather : the left shoe is embellished with the iconic adidas 3-stripes and the right shoe is adorned with the BAPE star logo. On the medial panels, these brandings are reversed and covered with the camo print. Brand details, such as the adidas superstar and A BATHING APE inscription, appear in gold on the sides of the shoes and the tongue. As on the white and black version, the white adidas and BAPE markings adorn the heel tab and insole on the left and right foot, respectively. To finalize the look, the inner lining, the rubber shell on the toe box and the sole are presented in black. This pair also features gold dubraes with the name BAPE and aglets adorned with brandings.
The adidas Superstar BAPE x Pack will be released on February 27, 2021, first in Asia on bape.com and then globally on adidas.coma little later. The price is set at 140€ per iteration.
