The Basketball section of Nike and Giannis Antetokounmpo, presents the second signature sneaker of the Greek player, the Zoom Freak 2. While the first Zoom Freak 1 model was designed for vertical movements on the floor, this new shoe is designed for horizontal movements. The NBA player wanted designer Ross Klein to create a shoe that would not only be highly effective on the field but also tell a story, the story of the reigning MVP.
The Nike Zoom Freak 2 is available in four different colorways: « Naija », « Black/White », « Bamo » and « White/Cement ».
The design of this new silhouette is based on the study of Giannis Antetokounmpo’s enormous capacity for movement. Because of his physique and his reading of the game, he is a formidable opponent on all areas of the floor. His assets have been taken into account for the design of this shoe, whose aim is to make the player more and more efficient.
The colorways chosen refer to important nations in the player’s history, such as Greece and the United States. As for the « Naija » colorway, it pays homage to Nigeria and takes up the colours of its national football team jersey. For the anecdote, the late father of Giannis Antetokounmpo loved this sport and shared his passion with his sons, giving them the taste for team games that brought Giannis to the NBA. As on the first signature shoe, we find the first names of his parents and brothers on this new silhouette, as well as the various logos associated with him. The four pairs consist of an upper made of a comfortable and breathable material with TPU inserts for better support. The heel and side swoosh are also made of this material and therefore add support on the side and back of the foot.
In the « Naija » iteration, the print on the upper and the bright green accents bring a bold 90’s style that is very much in vogue at the moment.
The « Black/White » colorway is adorned with a side Swoosh with a zebra print, adding originality to this sober pair. The side swoosh of the « Bamo » pair is decorated with a black and white graphic print with touches of orange. This print also covers the top of the heel to finalize the design. In the « White/Cement » iteration, the upper appears in white with glacier blue accents on the toe area and under the plain black side Swoosh. A few discreet Cement inserts add cachet to the pair.
The last big advantage of this shoe is the design of the sole in a « Court Feel » spirit. In order to be in perfect harmony with the ground and to favour fluid movements, Zoom technology is applied in a single unit to the front of the foot, with a hole in the sole to be directly in contact with this air pocket. This is combined with an ultra-comfortable and cushioning foam midsole and a rubber outsole that ensures grip and speed of movement.
The Nike Zoom Freak 2 will be released at different dates, available at selected retailers and on nike.com.
The « Naija » will be the first available, on July 25, 2020. Then, the « Black/White » will arrive on the market on July 31 and the « Bamo » on September 18. Finally, the « White/Cement » will be the last to be released on October 1, 2020.
