Nike Dunk Low « Setsubun »

The giant of Beaverton continues to honor the Japanese celebrations through its popular Nike Dunk Low. After offering us a special CNY « Year of the Tiger » version (article available HERE), the Swoosh brand unveils a « Setsubun » 2022 iteration inspired by the iconic Japanese festival.

This national holiday celebrates the end of winter and the arrival of spring according to the ancient Chinese lunar calendar. During Setsubun, it’s customary to throw dried soybeans to scare away demons and welcome good luck by chanting « demons out, good luck in ! »

The special Dunk Low consists of a cracked beige base referring to the famous dried soybeans. It’s enhanced by dark brown overlays on the front and back of the foot, and light brown-khaki in between. To complete the look, the pair features purple elements : the iconic side Swoosh, the inner lining, and the embroidery of a demon on the side heel. The insole is covered in Utagawa Kuniyoshi artwork featuring Kintarō « golden boy », a child hero who will become the powerful demon-fighting warrior Sakata Kintoki. The whole is based on a white midsole coupled with a gumsole.

The Nike Dunk Low « Setsubun » is expected to be released very soon on nike.com, as the Setsubun 2022 festival took place on February 3. To not miss anything, stay tuned !
