Nike Cosmic Unity

The American giant Nike is further committing itself to sustainable development and asserting its environmental awareness by introducing a new basketball silhouette, the Cosmic Unity. It’s presented in 3 colorways : « Green Glow », « Amalgam » and « Space Hippie ».

Unveiled by Lakers player Anthony Davis, this shoe is the first in the performance range to be part of the « Move To Zero » program. It’s made of at least 25% recycled materials by weight. It consists of a semi-high upper made of polyester incorporating recycled cable yarn, complemented by a recycled TPU Swoosh for a marbled effect. Even the laces and the insole are partially made from recycled materials. The midsole features Crater foam made from 10% recycled rubber beads. To ensure performance as well, this shoe features a premium cushioning system, the Zoom Air Strobel, sewn directly onto the upper for maximum comfort and responsiveness, resulting in an improved result.

Designers explain that this shoe is the lowest in the Nike Basketball catalog, with a sole-to-bottom thickness of 4mm, as opposed to the traditional 10mm. However, its construction and materials make it one of the best performing models. Nike strives to combine environmental awareness and performance, and it seems to be successful.

The Nike Cosmic Unity will be released worldwide at different dates depending on the colorway. The « Green Glow » will be launch first on 26 February 2021, the « Amalgam » will be available from 7 March 2021 and the « Space Hippie » on 12 March 2021. The recommended retail price is 150€ per pair.
