Nike Air Max 97 « Puerto Rico »

The American giant Nike will celebrate the Puerto Rican National Day 2021 with the iconic Air Max 97 silhouette. After a mock-up released last December (article available HERE), the first images of the official pair have just surfaced on social networks.

As a reminder, Nike had to cancel the 2019 and 2020 editions, based on the Air Force 1 Low, because of cultural defects and bad flag, respectively. Perhaps to make people forget these mistakes and start over, this year the Air Force 1 silhouette has been replaced by the AM97.

This pair features an OG « Silver Bullet » style. It consists of a reflective silver mesh base with the characteristic linear overlays in tone on tone. The design is completed with the Puerto Rican flag at the tongue loop, an insole featuring a Puerto Rican message « Aqui Me Quedo » (Here I Stay) and red Swoosh on the tongue tag and side panels. To ensure the tribute, the traditional black color is abandoned in favor of navy blue, another color of the Puerto Rican flag. It’s found on the inner lining and the two-tone outsole. A white midsole with the Air units tinted in silver finalize the look.

The Nike Air Max 97 « Puerto Rico » is expected to be released at select retailers and on nike.com, shortly before the annual Manhattan parade held on June 13. The announced price is 175$.
