The American giant NIKE plans to put us in its famous Air Max 90 for the coming summer. In addition to a version « Desert Camo » unveils recently, the Swoosh brand presents a pair paying tribute to a man who changed the history of the sneaker : Frank Rudy.
Although he is not well known to the general public, Marion Franklin Rudy aka Frank Rudy was a major member of Nike. This aerospace engineer designed the encapsulated Air technology. The Air Tailwind released in 1978, is the first Nike sneaker to benefit from this innovative technology. Patented in 1980, the Air units revolutionized the sneaker game, helping the Beaverton-based brand rise to the top.
To honor the creator of the Air technology, Nike presents a special edition of the Air Max 90.
This « Mr. Frank Rudy » sports a sleek minimalist look. It consists of a white mesh upper complemented by matching leather overlays and off-white suede overlays. The tongue, side Swoosh, TPU eyelets, inner lining and laces also appear in white. The shoe also features golden yellow details, such as the tongue branding and the novel heel tab featuring an Air unit. To ensure the theme, the blue insoles signed Franck Rudy mimic the pages of a notebook where the engineer would have drawn the sketches of these air bubble shoes. The aglets are decorated with the name of the designer, the mention « Est. 1990 » is affixed to the Air unit and the pair is adorned with a blue and yellow hangtag « California NIKE AIR » inspired by license plates. The whole is based on a white midsole and a gum outsole that harmoniously finalize the design.
The Nike Air Max 90 SE « Mr. Frank Rudy » is expected to be released soon, for summer 2022, at selected retailers and on nike.com, at an approximate price of $130.
