NIKE AIR MAX 90 “BACON”

To continue celebrating the 30th anniversary of the iconic Air Max 90, Nike announces the release of the legendary pair designed in partnership with the DQM boutique in 2004 : the Nike Air Max 90 “Bacon”.

The now-closed New York shop, Dave’s Quality Meat (DQM) was founded by artist Dave Ortiz and professional skateboarder Chris Keeffe. These lovers of comfortable sneakers had developed an avant-garde, butcher-themed shop, which today could be described as a « concept store ». Textiles and shoes were displayed there as if they were on a butcher’s stall. T-shirts wrapped in cellophane and sneakers hung from meat hooks.

The design of this Air Max 90 « Bacon » was therefore naturally inspired by butchers’ pieces, especially the slices of bacon that Americans enjoy for breakfast. The colour palette used refers to this greedy meat.

The pair consists of an upper combining leather and suede. We find a cream-coloured base with red and beige overlays and toasted brown inserts. The side swoosh and tongue are candy pink. This last colour is used to define the branding on the heel tab and the visible air unit. The whole is based on an off-white midsole with the compartment containing the brown Air unit. To complete the matching, the outsole appears in a toasted brown colour.

The NIKE Air Max 90 « Bacon » is expected to be available at selected retailers and Nike.com before the end of 2020. The price has not yet been released.

The original pair sells for over €1000 in the secondary market, so the new iteration is expected to be a big hit, so stay tuned for the latest news.
