Nike Air Force 1 « Little Accra »

The American giant Nike continues to celebrate the 40 years of the iconic Air Force 1 through collabs and special versions. After recently presenting us with an AF1 « Los Angeles » (article available HERE), the Swoosh brand returns to New York to pay tribute to the Ghanaian community with a « Little Accra » edition.

Fleeing a country ruled by a military regime, where economic and political conditions were harsh, Ghanaians came to the United States in several waves, many arriving in the 1980s and 1990s. A large community settled in New York City, including a cluster of streets around 167th Street forming a borough called « Little Accra ».

Nike named this special Air Force « Little Accra » to honor this Ghanaian community in New York. It’s one of those that cemented the silhouette’s legacy in streetwear.

This new edition features a look inspired by Ghanaian craftsmanship and traditional dress.

It’s crafted from premium materials with a tan upper complemented by satin red overlays. The side panels are adorned with delicate edging details and an orange Swoosh. These bright tan embroidered designs also appear on the heel, below the black heel tab adorned with the name « Little Accra ». A special 40th anniversary tongue tag and yellow inner lining complete the look. The metallic gold dubraes are adorned with special engraved designs and the insoles feature the unifying messages « Sharing Stories » and « Building Community ». The whole is based on a white midsole and a slightly tan outsole that harmoniously finalize the design.

The Nike Air Force 1 « Little Accra » will be released soon at select retailers and on nike.com.
