BMX star Nigel Sylvester continues his successful partnership with the Swoosh brand. A few months after teasing a collab with Jordan Brand based on the iconic Air Jordan 1 High, the professional athlete unveils a very special Air Ship branded « Bike Air ».
Nigel Sylvester took to Instagram to showcase this collab.
He explains that he chose the Air Ship silhouette to express his creativity in order to pay tribute to Michael Jordan’s NBA debut.
In addition to being the 1st Nike shoe worn by « His Airness », this model evokes the origins and ‘to prove himself’. A feeling and a duty that Nigel had to fulfill throughout his career.
In terms of design, the BMX champion was inspired by his upbringing and the Queens neighborhood of New York, the place where he was born.
The shoe consists of a white leather upper with matching overlays and a suede lace-up area also in tone on tone. For a touch of contrast, the collar and iconic side Swoosh logo are dressed in light blue suede. We also discover a bright white mini-Swoosh subtly embroidered on the side of the forefoot. To complete the look, the tongue has a vintage style by presenting itself in yellowed nylon. On its tag, the classic Nike Air branding is affixed in navy blue, a shade used for the inner lining. The key detail of this collab appears on the heel : Nigel Sylvester hijacked the Nike Air logo to become ‘Bike Air’ and thus perfectly match his universe. A small nod to his book released last October, the white insole is decorated with its title, ‘GO’, in navy blue. The whole is based on a yellowed white midsole and a light blue outsole that harmoniously complete the design.
About this ‘Bike Air’ logo and more broadly this collab, the BMX star shared : « Flipping the classic NIKE AIR logo to BIKE AIR is crazy on so many levels, but most importantly, it’s a testament to my bike riding, vision, hard work, and dedication to my goals. My desires have been, remains, and will always be to put my Dreams In Motion. I started something special in my grandma’s driveway all those years ago and will continue pushing it forward. »
