Building on the success of previous collaborations featuring the popular 992 silhouette (several items available on this site), NEW BALANCE unveils two new iterations developed with NICE KICKS shop and West Coast record store AMOEBA MUSIC. The triple collaboration celebrates California music store culture and the opening of AMOEBA MUSIC’s new Hollywood location. In addition to the two reinvented NB 992s, this collection also includes a clothing capsule.
The color palette is inspired by the record store, including its exterior and neon signs.
The shoes consist of a mesh upper with suede overlays and some leather inserts. The heels are adorned with the inscriptions « Peace » or « Music » in a retro 70’s script, instead of the traditional New Balance branding. The design is completed with a two-tone ENCAP and ABZORB dual technology midsole, combined with a rubber outsole in a color matched the midfoot overlay.
The first version combines bright yellow on the forefoot and under ankle area, with two shades of New Balance’s iconic grey on the midfoot and heel. Mint green accents, like the laces and heel branding finalize the look.
The second version is dressed in mint green on the forefoot, beige on the heel and black on the midfoot. The laces and « Peace » and « Music » lettering on the heel tab appear in bright red, adding a nice touch of extra color.
The clothing capsule uses AMOEBA MUSIC’s signature colorful slime logo. It’s found on hoodies, crewnecks and fleece pants, as well as on t-shirts and shorts, all of which match the sneakers in color. Some pieces also feature graphics referencing the slogans hanging in the store, such as the neon « Highest $ Paid » sign above the counter or the hit « Peace Through Music » in « Bubble » lettering.
The Nice Kicks shop x Amoeba Music x New Balance collection will be released on April 2, 2021, exclusively on shopnicekicks.com. The sneakers will be priced at 240$ and the clothes will cost between 35$ and 70$.
