The iconic NEW BALANCE brand continues to assert its leadership by unveiling an attractive new collection. Following the success of the 2002R « Protection Pack » (or officially « Refined Future ») silhouettes designed by Yue Wu, the Boston-based brand is taking this coveted design and applying it to another retro updated model : the 1906R.
This 2000s running shoe has been reworked to fit more into New Balance’s lifestyle category, while retaining its technical and performance qualities.
Last August, a 1st ‘deconstructed’ version in a charcoal grey/ grey colorway had surfaced. Today, it’s accompanied by 3 other simple but effective variations.
4 colorways are thus proposed to us. They are dressed in a color palette reminiscent of the first versions of 2002R « Protection Pack » : in shades of grey, black, off-white and beige.
The 1906D is composed of an upper combining a mesh base with irregular overlays in more or less hairy suede. As on the 2002R, the panels are adorned with additional deconstructed inserts that accentuate the look and assert the inspiration. The iconic N logo on the side includes added leather and features NLOCK. To complete the design, the silhouette’s name « 1906D » appears on the leather insert under the ankle, the tongue retains its traditional finish, and the heel gets a sturdy and stylish TPU reinforcement. The whole is based on an ABSORB and N-ERGY sole taken from the NB 860v2, which adds a vintage touch to the pair.
The New Balance 1906R « Protection Pack » will be released on January 1st, 2023, at select retailers like SNS, Afew, Asphaltgold or BSTN and on newbalance.com. The price is set at 180€ per pair, let’s go !
