5 years ago, the Parisian boutique COLETTE closed its doors. To pay tribute to its 20 years of existence, a documentary called ‘COLETTE mon amour’ has been shot and is available for a limited time.
Yesterday on Instagram, the COLETTE account added a post with the caption : « A little surprise is coming… Grab some popcorn and stay tuned #coletteforever 1997-2017 #December20 ».
A day later, things are getting clearer : COLETTE announces the commemoration of the 5th anniversary of its closure through a one-hour documentary ‘COLETTE mon amour’. This short film traces the history and impact of the brand on the fashion world and will be available for free for 5 days.
This is a great gift before Christmas, for those nostalgic for this place of commerce and for novices who would like to learn more about this cultural institution that had a very strong influence.
Founded in 1997 by Colette Roussaux and her daughter Sarah Andelman, the company located at 213 rue Saint-Honoré is considered the very first concept store. For 20 years, COLETTE was an iconic retail destination that showcased young designers and was the starting point for the fusion of luxury fashion with other fields, such as streetwear and various art forms. It breathed a new vision of fashion, which was later adopted by other leading brands.
‘COLETTE mon amour’ highlights the revolutionary and democratic character of this cultural melting pot that has hosted, for example, the writer Haruki Murakami, the street artist FUTURA 200, or the rapper Drake. It also gives an overview of the months that preceded the final closure of the shop, with testimonials from personalities such as Kanye West, Ronnie Fieg or the late designer Virgil Abloh. We also discover the multidisciplinary artist Pharrell Williams who sums up the pioneering spirit of COLETTE to which the film pays tribute : « If you want to buy the future, this is the place to come. »
