In addition to offering us quality sneakers, the German brand KangaROOS invests in social projects that are close to its heart. With the shop ACRIBIK, they worked in collaboration to present us a special sneaker on a theme that unfortunately concerns us all, directly or indirectly, cancer.
Named « Fuck Cancer », the KangaROOS x Acribik MiG wants to raise awareness about the disease of the century, cancer, and emphasize screening and mutual aid.
This Made in Germany shoe is part of the GAMMA+ project which brings together several popular German stores. This alliance offers exclusive products and emphasizes cohesion. 7 years ago, KangaROOS created a last sneaker in collaboration with the then 6 GAMMA+ shops : Overkill, Asphaltgold, 43einhalb, Suppa, Afew and The Good Will Out. Today, this project is relaunched with new protagonists. The Good Will Out has left the GAMMA+ group while Gloryhole and Acribik have joined it. These 7 German stores have the project to design their own shoe in collaboration with KangaROOS.
The 1st opus presented today was developed by ACRIBIK. The store manager of this shop, Homes, was shocked by the cancer diagnosis of a close relative. To fight this scourge, he founded the NOBU label, the initials of « None Other But Us », which conveys a strong message of will and fighting spirit. The goal is to raise awareness of this disease and give strength to those affected and their families to fight until remission. NOBU also solicits people to register with DKMS, the international non-profit organization fighting against blood cancer. Unlike other types of cancer, blood cancer can be fought with stem cell donations. That’s why a part of the proceeds of this collab will be donated to DKMS.
As for the sneaker, it comes in an understated and timeless color combination : pearl grey, charcoal grey and cream. Made from premium materials in the German KangaROOS’ Hummel&Hummel factory, it consists of a perforated suede upper, complemented by corduroy and smooth suede overlays. To accentuate comfort, the inner lining appears in breathable padded mesh, and the heel benefits from side pads. The iconic KangaROOS logo stands out subtly on the quarter panel while it more prominently adorns the mudguard. The whole is based on a white midsole with a touch of grey, equipped with the Dynacoil cushioning system and a heel stabilizer. A black outsole elegantly completes the design.
The KangaROOS x Acribik MiG « Fuck Cancer » is limited to 300 pairs worldwide. It will be released on July 9, 2022 exclusively at ACRIBIK, before arriving in other GAMMA+ shops and on kangaroos.com a week later on July 16, 2022. Be ready !
