For several years now, Scottish shop HANON has enjoyed a special relationship with Italian sports brand DIADORA (several items available on this site). For their latest joint project, the partners present a “Glorious Moments” pack featuring a reinterpreted Diadora Intreprid and ’07 Away jersey.
For the design of this collaborative capsule, HANON was inspired by a famous soccer night in Paris.
Almost 16 years ago, on Wednesday September 12, 2007, Scotland faced World Cup finalists France on home turf. Having already beaten them in Glasgow the previous year, Scotland were in 2nd place with 4 games to go. The stage was set, and qualification was truly at stake.
Both teams struggled to create any real chances, until the match came to life in the 64th minute when James McFadden scored a goal at the Parc des Princes that awakened the pride of Scottish soccer and will remain engraved in the collective Scottish memory. This sudden and unconventional strike was described as “against the run of play” and even “against the course of history”, as Scotland’s victory over France at the Parc des Princes was so unforeseeable !
With this in mind, and using the color code of that evening’s jersey, the pair of shoes and jersey have been reinvented.
Handcrafted in Italy, the HANON x Diadora Intrepid consists of an upper combining an off-white mesh toe box with a quarter panel and overlays in premium grey velvety suede. To assert the theme, the pair is adorned with bright blue nubuck inserts, a navy nappa leather collar and a metallic gold side stripe. The gold color is also used for the branding and co-branding details embroidered on various parts of the foot : the heel, the heel counter and the tongue tag. We also discover an illustration of James McFadden’s famous strike applied to the inside of the tongue and associated with the co-branding covering the insole. The whole is based on a comfortable VIBRASORB technology midsole in off-white with touches of grey and bright blue. A navy-blue rubber outsole completes the look.
The pair will be delivered in a specially designed co-branded box, wrapped in evening paper and accompanied by 2 extra sets of laces and a sticker of James McFadden’s silhouette in action.
The Diadora ’07 Away jersey presented by HANON resembles the OG version worn by James McFadden for his legendary goal and, more generally, by Scotland for 2 years during the Euro 2008 qualifying campaign. It appears in white with a large light-blue cross with gold outlines on the chest. The jersey is adorned with gold-tone branding, the number ’64’ in reference to the minute James McFadden scored the winning goaland, also a crest and an HANON badge.
To highlight this collaborative capsule, HANON called on the famous man who gave them the inspiration, James McFadden.
The HANON x Diadora ‘Glorious Moments’ capsule will be released via an open raffle HERE until June 2, 2023. Prices are set at £165 (205$) for the pair of shoes and £95 ($118) for the jersey. Let’s go !
