GRUBENHELDEN X KANGAROOS “PAWER”

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]For some years now, the German retailer GRUBENHELDEN has been developing an environmentally friendly production, based on recycling the used clothing of coalminers. Coal mining is not completely stopped in Germany and GRUBENHELDEN, in addition to having an ecological approach, is highlighting this old activity. The Germans of KANGAROOS have found in it the ideal partner for their “Made in Germany” line and today introduce us an interesting collaboration.

This project pays tribute to men who worked hard, often at the cost of their health, to bring back “black gold” to the surface. It’s called “Pawer”, the nickname of the German scientist Georgius Agricola, known as the father of mineralogy and mining techniques.

The pair consists of a black and a white leather upper. The black colour symbolizes the coal and the white leather results from the recycling of the miners’ pants. More particularly, the part located at the buttocks, made of reinforced leather for a better comfort of the coalminers when working in a sitting position. Moreover, this robust white leather is simply called (keep kids away) “ass leather”. The lining is made from the miners’ shirts, hence the pretty patterns.
We find winks to these workers on the midsole, the speckled effect refers to the coal dust that used to come out of their hair when they were about to shower. Also on the outsole, the mint-colored being that of their bathing slippers. This flashy colour brings energy to this beautiful pair of sober tones. A reminder of this colour is used on the lacetag where the inscription of the number “1494” represents the year of birth of the scientist “Pawer”.
On the heel are embroidered flails and irons, symbols of mining.
GRUBENHELDEN and ROOS branding details are present in the sides of the shoe, under the outsole and on the tongue. In the small pocket, typical for KANGAROOS sneakers, is a text of “Steigerlied”, a traditional song sung during the descent into the mine. With the pair, in the box we find a handmade leather key ring, a real piece of hard coal and a pair of GRUBENHELDEN socks that matches perfectly.

This KANGAROOS x GRUBENHELDEN collaboration, steeped in history and at the same time very current thanks to its “upcycled” materials, will be available from Friday 20 March 2020, from EU 37 to UE 47 and will cost 270€[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”29975″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]
