Since the beginning of this year 2023, G-SHOCK unveils several special products to celebrate its 40th anniversary. A few days after the appearance of a trio of recrystallized watches, the Japanese brand presents the “Remaster black” capsule.
This pack consists of 4 black watches : the GA-114RE, DWE-5657RE, DW-6640RE and GA-2140RE. They are inspired by legendary models, respectively : the GA-110 which is adorned with the analog-digital combination, the DW-5600 with the original iconic shape of the 1st G-SHOCK watch, the DW-6600 which was the 1st model of the brand to be equipped with LED lighting, and the GA-2100, the new ultimate basic with octagonal dial.
These special 40th anniversary ‘Remaster Black’ watches feature an engraved black strap that tells the story of G-SHOCK. Specifically, each strap mentions the years and names of the models that marked the evolution of G-SHOCK. The watch brand has focused on 49 models (out of 4,200 released since 1983) that embody innovation in design and materials. In addition to the branding, the straps feature a gold-colored stainless steel buckle with 4 stars and the words “since 1983”.
Other exclusive details on these ultra-resistant models, water-resistant to 200 meters, include the anniversary logo engraved on the case back, the star on the button located on the lower left side of the case. Depending on the model, the ’40th anniversary’ logo may appear when the LED display is activated.
In terms of materials, G-SHOCK continues to reduce its environmental footprint. The cases and wristbands are made with bio-based resins produced from renewable organic resources such as castor oil plants and corn. The LED backlighting is high brightness and has a 5-year battery life. The cases are eco-friendly and sustainable, designed from recycled materials, and the outer box includes recycled paper and/or ‘bagasse’, the sugarcane fiber used to replace wood. Also, the ink used is vegetable-based.
The G-SHOCK “REMASTER BLACK” capsule will be available for pre-order online from May 12, 2023 at gshock.casio.com. Prices are set at 149€ for each of 2 models : the DW-6640RE and the GA-2140RE, at 169€ for the GA-114RE and 179€ DWE-5657RE.
