A few days after presenting us with an 80’s inspired collab with the German shop ACRIBIK (article available HERE), the American brand SAUCONY has teamed up with the Florida retailer FRESH RAGS. The silhouette of the 2000s, the Grid Web has been revisited and unveiled on social networks under the name « Manatee ».
This shoe is inspired by the state where the FRESH RAGS shop is based, Florida, with its wide open spaces and iconic animals. It pays special tribute to the most unique animal of the region : the Manatee. This marine mammal, nicknamed « sea cow », is harmless and lives a peaceful life in Florida’s warm waters. Unfortunately, the manatee has been listed as an endangered species for over 30 years, due to ongoing habitat destruction and increased contact with humans.
Fresh Rags is championing the cause of the manatee by representing it on this Saucony Grid Web. The sneaker features a grey Athletic mesh base, enhanced by a metallic ocean blue cage and completed with Algae green suede overlays featuring small embossed patterns. The collar and tongue are made of navy blue neoprene, as is the iconic protective lip guard. The design is complemented by the iridescent S logo on the side panels and the slanted stripes embroidered in eelgrass green at the heel and sole area. To affirm the collab, the green FRESH RAGS logo adorns the tongue label. The whole is based on an off-white midsole, coupled with a sparkling turquoise blue icy outsole that ensures the look.
A capsule apparel collection « Fresh Springs » should also be offered. It would include t-shirts, shorts and accessories, such as caps and towels, in the same colors as the sneaker.
The Fresh Rags x Saucony Grid Web « Manatee » is presented at ComplexLand 2021, which runs from June 16-18, 2021. It will then be released in the Fresh Rags store on June 26 and online on June 28 via pre-registration at https://fresh-rags-fl.myshopify.com/pages/register-fresh-rags-x-saucony.
