The famous shop PATTA continues to revisit legendary silhouettes of great sports brands. After Nike’s Air Max 1 and New Balance’s 990v3, the team of Edson Sabajo and Guillaume Schmidt reinvents Converse’s Chuck 70, in triple collaboration with Experimental Jetset.
Patta and Experimental Jetset have worked together in the past.
Experimental Jetset is an independent graphic design studio founded in 1997 in Amsterdam by Marieke Stolk, Danny van den Dungen and Erwin Brinkers. All three are graduates of the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam, where they have been teaching since 2000. Inspired by the political activism of the 60’s and the alternative movements of the 20th century such as psychedelic pop, Experimental Jetset limits the tools of production and opts for the almost exclusive use of Helvetica. The mantra is simple : « transform language into objects ». The Dutch studio’s work is recognized worldwide and exhibited in world-renowned institutions.
The Converse Chuck 70 reimagined by Patta and Experimental Jetset has a look that invites you to explore cities, streets, randomly and aimlessly. It symbolizes the idea that each person has to find their own way in life.
The iconic silhouette features a white canvas upper with specific details on the back of the foot: blue and red directional arrows and black « UP/LEFT/RIGHT/DOWN/NORTH/SOUTH/WEST/EAST » directional markings (inaccurate). The pair is also adorned with other black markings, including the words « Patta Psychogeographic Practice » which reflect the 3 partners, Patta, Experimental Jetset and Converse respectively. These 3 « P‘s » appear combined in the form of a logo and affixed to the side heel. A co-branding on the inner side of the tongue, the phrases « the city is an infrastructure of language… » and « …to walk is to read – to read is to walk » on the outer side ensure the design. To finalize the look, the left shoe’s heel badge has been customized with « PPP Keep on driftin’ » and the outsoles are mismatched, one blue and one red, and are adorned with the famous black arrows identical to those on the upper.
The Experimental Jetset x Patta x Converse Chuck 70 will be released on November 10, 2022 for $100, in stores and online at patta.nl and converse.com, as well as at select retailers. Don’t sleep !
