After teaming up with PUMA last month, the British shop END. is back with the German giant ADIDAS for a new collaboration. The partners present us with a trio of sneakers paying homage to the legendary BAUHAUS german school of art, design and architecture.
This institution was founded by the architect Walter Gropius in 1919 following the merger of the school of arts and crafts, and the academy of fine arts of the city of Weimar. It had the particularity of having a modernist approach to the arts : no hierarchy between the so-called « major » and « minor » arts. By extension, the Bauhaus school designates an artistic movement of the same name that includes architecture, art, design, photography, fashion and dance. It created objects and artworks according to the principle that ‘form follows function’, the Bauhaus movement aimed to bring art and design back into contact with our everyday lives. Combining bold typography, bright colors and architectural forms, the influence of Bauhaus continued beyond the early 20th century, with iconic pieces by Kandinsky, Breuer, Klee and many others considered the most important and influential works of the century. This movement served as the basis for thinking about modern architecture, especially the International Style.
END. has transformed the silhouettes of the Adidas Bermuda, Handball Spezial and ZX420 to commemorate the 20th century Bauhaus movement, relaying the German school’s aesthetic vision onto modern sneakers.
The collaborative Bermuda consists of a yellow suede upper, contrasted by red/blue/red leather 3-Stripes. This design choice reflects the Bauhaus affection for geometric shapes and overlays. A smooth yellow leather inner lining and a semi-translucent gum rubber sole complete the look.
The Handball Spezial sports a sky blue suede upper with matching overlays. This base is elevated by bright yellow leather heel tabs and red/yellow/red side 3-Stripes. Navy blue laces match the semi-translucent sole to add character to the pair.
The ZX420 is made from a combination of materials. It features a white mesh upper with overlays in matching shades of leather or suede. Duck blue/yellow/duck blue 3-Stripes and a red heel tab add a nice bold touch. To finalize the design, this exclusive version features a plush fabric inner lining, a cream midsole and a gum outsole.
All 3 silhouettes feature co-branding on the tongue tag, insole, heel and aglets, and are labeled with the slogan « Bright is my favorite color ».
