Famous British retailer SIZE? has teamed up with German giant adidas to present a collaboration based on the silhouette that celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, the Superstar. The two partners have integrated a film studio into the project in order to design a duo of sneakers inspired by Baz Luhrmann’s 1996 film « Romeo + Juliet », a revisited version of Shakespeare’s mythical work.
In the 1996 film « Romeo + Juliet », Romeo Montaigu is played by Leonardo Di Caprio and Juliet Capulets by Claire Danes. The legendary story of the two lovers of enemy families is transposed in the district of Los Angeles, Verona Beach, during the 90s.
A duo of Superstar is proposed to us, one representing Romeo and the other Juliette. The design of these pairs is inspired by the landscapes and outfits of the film.
The « Romeo » consists of a smooth leather upper in different colors on each side of the shoe : red « Sunset » and deep blue « ocean ». On top, multicolored flower prints and midnight blue palm trees refer to Leonardo Di Caprio’s shirts. The khaki green tongue, as well as the 3 adidas side stripes and the midnight blue heel tab complete the design. To highlight the varied colors and patterns of this iteration, the iconic shell toe, lining, laces and sole appear in white.
The « Juliet » comes in leather in shades of gourmet pink : fuchsia on one side and lighter pink on the other. The emblematic adidas 3 stripes appear covered with multicolored floral prints on the fuchsia background, and deep pink/red plain on the lighter pink. The design is complemented by the pinkish cream color defining the toe shell, laces, heel tab and sole.
On both versions, the « + » symbol adorns the heel tab to finalize the tribute to the title of Baz Luhrmann’s film.
The duo SIZE? x adidas Originals Superstar « Romeo & Juliet » will be released on December 10, 2020 in SIZE? and online stores in men’s and women’s sizes for 90€. A raffle is now open on the Size Launches app.
