The New Balance brand continues to be very active in terms of collaborations. After recently partnering with the retailer Size?, the brand BAPE and the shop Concepts (articles available on this site), the Boston-based equipment manufacturer is back with the retailer DTLR to offer us a new collaborative version of the fashionable silhouette, the NB 992.
In the spring, the 2 partners presented us with a grey « Discover and Celebrate » iteration with touches of black and orange, paying homage to Washington DC and its tricolor flag (article available HERE).
For the new version called « Varsity », the iconic grey color New Balance is retained. It’s found in the upper combining mesh and suede. This base is enhanced by blue, white and red suede inserts symbolizing the college sports culture in the United States. This collaborative sneaker pays homage to the unifying power of sports, which is found in American universities. To affirm the inspiration, a special American flag adorns the upper tongue, alongside New Balance branding embroidered in yellow, and USA lettering stands out on the back of the heel. The upscale look is completed with a side N logo and a white leather heel tab. The whole is based on a comfortable white midsole coupled with a blue rubber outsole. The pair comes with different sets of laces, white or yellow, to ensure the best matches.
The DTLR x New Balance 992 « Varsity » will be released on September 3, 2021 in stores and online at dtlr.com, priced at 185$. Don’t sleep !
