Dover Street Market x New Balance 991 Made in UK

The famous equipment manufacturer New Balance unveils a new promising collaboration. A few hours before the release of the GANNI x New Balance 2002R duo (article available HERE), the Boston-based brand presents a 991 Made in UK revisited by Dover Street Market.

This collaboration is part of the celebration of 40 years of New Balance shoes manufacturing in the UK, in the Flimby factory.

Dover Street Market or DSM is a multi-level retail space and concept store designed by the couple Kei Kawakubo and Adrian Joffe, respectively the founder and president of COMME des GARÇONS. DSM houses all of CDG’s lines as well as a variety of other high-end labels such as Vetements, Raf Simons, Junya Watanabe and Balanciaga. The store’s industrial and anti-luxury aesthetic is renowned in the fashion retail world.

For its special 991, DSM reinterpreted New Balance’s signature grey hue. The shoe consists of an upper that mixes mesh, suede and premium leather in darkened shades tending towards brown. The overlays on the toe box and the tongue tag are presented in a harmonious color near creamy beige. To affirm the collab, the DSM logo is discreetly affixed in white on the lace loop and heel while the New Balance brandings keep their usual places on the tongue tag and side panels. On the inside of the tongue is a tribute to the 40th anniversary of shoe design in the UK’s Flimby factory, with the dates « 1982-2022 ». The insoles are also adorned with commemorative and collaborative details : « new balance 40th anniversary » for the left foot and the in-house Dover Street Market logo for the right foot. A two-tone white/beige ABZORB dual window midsole and black and grey rubber outsole elegantly finalize the design.

The Dover Street Market x New Balance 991 Made in UK will be released on April 14, 2022 in stores and online at shop.doverstreetmarket.com, priced at $274. Be ready !
